4. At Japanese Style Inn (Ryokan)

These are samples of Japanese phrases used at an accommodation like a Rryokan (Japanese Inn) or hotel.

* These samples are basically in conversation style. Also, some useful expressions are added.

● Please take your shoes off at the entrance. ● お履物は玄関でお脱ぎ下さい。
Ohakimono wa Genkan de onugi kudasai.
● Please put these slippers on while walking inside the building. ● 館内ではスリッパをご利用下さい。
kan-nai dewa Sulippa wo goriyou kudasai.
● Please take your shoes off before you go inside your room. ● 室内では靴をお脱ぎください。
Shitsu-nai dewa Kutsu wo onugi kudasai.
● Would you please not step on the tatami floor with your slippers on? ● スリッパで畳の部屋に入らないでいただけますでしょうか。
Sulippa de Tatami no Heya ni hairanai de itadake masude shouka.
● A tea serving set and a thermos with hot water are provided in your room. Please enjoy tea anytime. ● ポットとお茶がお部屋に用意してございます。ご自由にお飲み下さい。
Potto to Ocha ga Oheya ni youi shite gozai masu. Gojiyu ni onomi kudasai.
● Daiyokujou (Large public bath) is here.

Daiyokujou wa kokoni arimasu.
● Daiyokujou (Large public bath) for men, and women are separated. Please be careful when you go inside the bathroom. ● 男湯と女湯に分かれています。入る前にご注意下さい。
Otokoyu to Onnnayu ni wakarete imasu Hairu mae ni gochuui kudasai.
● This symbol is for the bath for women and this symbol is for men. (Showing the symbols) ● 女湯のマークはこちらです。男湯のマークはこれです。(マーク(漢字)を見せながら)
Onnayu no Mark wa kochira desu. Otokoyu no Mark wa kochira desu.
● Please don't pull out the drain plug of the bathtub. ● 浴槽の詮は抜かないで下さいね。
Yokusou no Sen wa nukanai de kudasai.
● You can wear Yukata for pajamas or as a robe. ● 浴衣は室内着、またはパジャマとしてご利用下さい。
Yukata wa Shitsunaigi, matawa Pajama toshite goriyou kudasai.
● You can go out of your room wearing Yukata. ● 浴衣姿で部屋の外を歩いてもかもいません。
Yukata-sugata de Heya no Soto wo aruitemo kamai masen.
● You can have dinner wearing Yukata if you like. ● 浴衣姿で夕食をお目し上がりになってもかまいません。
Yukata sugatade Yushoku wo omesiagari ni natte mo kamai masen.
● After taking the bath, you can put on Yukata. ● 入浴後、浴衣を着用頂けます。
Nyuuyoku-go, Yukata wo chakuyou itadake masu.
● Please bring the bath towel and the hand towel in your room when you go to Daiyokujou (big bath room). ● 大浴場に行く時は部屋のバスタオルとタオルを持参して下さい。
Daiyokujou ni iku toki wa, Heya no Bath Towel wo jisan shite kudasai.
● In the Daiyokujou (Large public bath), shampoo, hair conditioner and soap are provided. ● 大浴場にシャンプー、リンス、せっけんはあります。
Daiyokujou ni Shampoo, Rinsu, Sekken wa arimasu.
● Please don't put the hand towel into the bathtub. ● 浴槽に、タオルを入れないで下さい。
Yokusou ni Towel wo irenai de kudasai.
● You are only to go inside the bathtub after you washed your body, please. ● 浴槽には身体を洗ってから入ります。
Yokusou niwa Karada wo aratte kara hairimasu.
● It is better not to bring precious belongings to the changing (dressing) room of Daiyokujou (Large public bath). ● 大浴場の脱衣所には貴重品を持って行かない様にしてください。
Daiyokujou no Datsuijo niwa, Kichouhin wo motte ikanai youni shite kudasai.
● Please do not walk into your room in the slippers from the toilet room. ● トイレのスリッパで室内は歩かないで下さい。
Toilet no Sulippa de Shitsunai wa arukanai de kudasai.
● We will bring your dinner to your room at _________. ● ご夕飯は____時にお部屋にお持ちします。
Goyuushoku wa ____Ji ni Oheya ni omochi shi masu.
● Are you finished? Can I take the dishes away? ● お食事はお済ですか?お下げしてよろしいでしょうか。
Oshokuji wa osumi desu ka? Osage shite yoroshii deshou ka?
● Dinner will be ready at ______. Please come to the cafeteria at that time. ● ご夕飯は____時にご用意いたします。時間になりましたら、食堂までお越し下さい。
Goyuushoku wa ______Ji ni goyoui itashi masu. Jikan ni narimashi tara, Shokudou made okoshi kudasai.
● We will come to your room to prepare the futons. ● 夜、お布団を敷きにまいります。
Yoru, Ofuton wo shiki ni mairi masu.
● May I come in? I have come to lay out your futons for you. ● 失礼します、お布団を敷きいたします。
Shitsurei shimasu. Ofuton wo oshiki itashi masu.
● We will come to fold up the futons at _________ tomorrow morning. ● 明日の朝は___時にお布団を上げに参ります。
Asu no Asa wa ___Ji ni Ofuton wo age ni mairi masu.
● Good morning. I am here to fold up the futons. ● おはようございます、お布団を上げに参りました。
Ohayou gozai masu. Ofuton wo ageni mairi mashita.
